<< Back to Partners Page

Hampden-Sydney College was founded as a four year independent liberal arts college for men in 1775 and is the 10th oldest college in the United States. It is located on a 1200-acre wooded campus 60 miles southwest of Richmond, Virginia.

Counted among its alumni is William Henry Harrison, the 9th President of the United States. With its long and distinguished history, much of the campus has been designated a National Historic Preservation Zone.

It was to this campus that one of the original co-founders of the R.A.M.P.S. organization, Mike Dowd enrolled in the fall of 2007. He immediately started R.A.M.P.S. on campus, establishing a relationship with the local social services department and assembling ramps in his first semester in college.

Mike and his college community embody the Code of Conduct under which Hampden-Sydney students promise to treat each other, members of the College community, and everyone else they meet, as they would like to be treated themselves.

If you are interested in getting involved in your college community by starting a R.A.M.P.S.sm organization at your school, please e-mail us at questions_ramps@hotmail.com.
